Svolvær, um paraíso nas Lofoten / Svolvær, a paradise in Lofoten
Bodø está no roteiro para as Lofoten. Por isso, não hesitei quando surgiu a oportunidade de visitar Svolvær, em pouco mais de 24 h.
Impossível? Não...
....Vou partilhar convosco as dicas da nossa viagem :D
On the way to Lofoten is Bodø. So, when the opportunity to visit Svolvær in 24h arose , I grabbed it.
Impossible? No....
.... I am going to share some tips of our trip with you!
Svolvær?
Svolvær encontra-se na ilha de Austvågøya, no arquipélago das Lofoten.
A cidade conta com cerca de 5000 habitantes (uma cidade pequena, até para padrões noruegueses) e um dos pilares económicos é a indústria da pesca (pesca de bacalhau, secagem de peixe, transformação de peixe).
Svolvær is located on the island of Autvågøya in the Lofoten Archipelago.
The town has around 5000 people (a small town, even to norwegian standards) and one of the main economic strengths is the fish industry.
Como chegar?
Existem várias maneiras, entre as quais:
- de carro, pela costa, conduzindo cerca de 6h (apesar de serem 279 km, as estradas percorrem fiordes e montanhas);
- de avião (Bodø-Leknes) e alugando um carro até Svolvær (ou indo de autocarro linha 18-741);
- de barco (ferry), de Bodø até Moskenes;
- de barco (Hurtigruten, cruzeiros que fazem a costa da noruega).
How to get there?
It is possible to reach Svolvær by:
-car, through the coast, driving around 6 h (although its only 279km, the roads go through fjords and mountains);
-plane (Bodø-Leknes) and renting a car (or taking a bus);
-boat (ferry), from Bodø to Moskenes;
-boat (Hurtingruten, cruise that sails along the norwegian coast).
Nós optámos pela última alternativa, e fomos de Hurtigruten.
A viagem durou cerca de 6h. Apesar de longa, é confortável e, enquanto de dia, as vistas fizeram valer a pena. E à noite... conseguimos ver auroras boreais!
We chose the last option, and traveled by boat (Hurtingruten).
The trip lasted around 6h. Although a long trip, it is a comfortable one. And during the day time, the views were well worth it! And at night... we got to see the northern lights!

Assim que chegámos a Svolvær não perdemos tempo; fomos logo visitar o bar de gelo "Magic Ice". Tem diversas esculturas de gelo, e tivemos que usar uma capa para proteger da temperatura, dado que têm que manter o bar a temperaturas negativas.
Fun fact; a nossa bebida foi servida em copo de gelo :)
What to do?
As soon as we got to Svolvær we didn't waste any time; we went directly to the ice bar "Magic Ice". It has many ice sculptures , and we had to use a cape to protect us from the low temperatures.
Fun fact, the drink was served in a ice cup :)
Ainda aproveitando o serão, passamos pelas estruturas típicas utilizadas para a secagem de peixe. Aqui é colocado o peixe fresco, a secar.
Acho curioso estas estruturas não estarem protegidas de acesso a terceiros, e qualquer um puder aproximar-se (a vontade era trazer um bacalhau para casa. :) )
We wanted to enjoy the night, so we walked near the typical structures used to dry the fish. I think it's very interesting that the access to these structures is not protected, and anyone can get close to the drying fish (we wanted to take a codfish home :))
A manhã seguinte começou cedo - assim que abriu a sala de pequeno-almoço - e apesar de ainda estar a amanhecer, a vista do hotel (Vestfjord Hotell) não desiludiu:
The following morning began early - as soon as the breakfast room opened - and although it was dawn, the view from the Hotel didn't disappoint:
Optámos por fazer um safari de barco em busca de águias. Contudo, antes do safari, aproveitámos para dar um passeio pela cidade e arredores:
We decided to do a boat safari searching for sea eagles. But, before the safari, we took a walk around the city:
Existem diversas empresas que efetuam safaris nas Lofoten; nós fomos com a RIB Safaris. Antes de partirmos à aventura tivemos que nos equipar com um fato isolante, luvas e óculos protetores de vento/frio (vejam a primeira foto do blog!).
No safari pudemos ver águias-do-mar (Havørn) e visitar o Trollfjord.
De acordo com o nosso guia, nos tempos antigos, havia muita passagem de barcos de pesca pelo fiorde. Era uma das principais rotas do Norte. Os pescadores, supersticiosos e com uma imaginação fértil, conseguiam ver caras de monstros nas montanhas. Daí o fiorde ter ganho o nome de Troll.
There are many companies that organize safaris in the Lofoten islands, and we chose the RIB Safaris. Before we began the adventure, we needed to equip with insulating clothes, gloves and protective googles (see the blog's first picture!).
During the safari we got to see Sea Eagles and visit the Trollfjord.
According to our guide, there was a lot of fishing boat traffic around the fjord in the old times. It was one of the main routes in the North. The fisherman, superstitious and with a fertile imagination, thought that they could see monsters faces in the moutains. So Troll stuck as a name to the fjord.

After the safari, we walked around the town and ate in a restaurant in the center. I didn't dare to eat Bacalau (typical northern dish), but I would say it tastes like a fish soup, with potato... Somewhat similar to a portuguese dish, but not quite the same. Different :)
